“Perfected for ever”! That’s what God said about the sacrifice of His precious son in Hebrews 10:14. “For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified”.  Hebrews is an incredible book and one us old fashioned Baptist camp out in. One reason I love Hebrews is that it settles irrefutably that salvation is “eternal”, not temporary [Hebrews 5:9] “And being made perfect, he became the author of ETERNAL SALVATION unto all them that obey him”. *Turn to John 6:22-29 and read those verses nice and slow and let them sink in a bit. What the Lord Jesus said there is that God expects some works in the New Testament just as he expected some works from those Old Testament saints. But in both cases, it is works of Faith. What works does He expect?  He expects us to obey his command to BELIEVE His testimony concerning Christ. In fact, if you read 1st John 5:10 the Bible says anyone who does not believe on the Lord Jesus Christ has called God a liar because he refuses to believe what God said about Jesus.  Turn to vs 9 again here in Hebrews 5. Ya might want to take a good long peek at verse 37 while you are here too. “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out”. Oh yes!!! Ain’t that good? What part of “I will in NO WISE cast out” seems to confuse so many folks is beyond me. Another one we old fashioned Baptist really like is in Hebrews chapter 9 verse 12. More and more, again and again we find things of salvation are “ETERNAL”. Look at it with me: “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained {watch this} ETERNAL REDEMPTION for us”!!! Back when I was a kid my mother collected S&H Green stamps. We were poor. She’d collect up those stamps and then when she had enough, she’d go “redeem” them for new things. You could ‘redeem’ them for all sorts of new stuff. God taught the children of Israel all about trading something in for something else. They understood what it means to “REDEEM” something. The more you read and grow and understand, the more you realize that “ETERNAL REDEMPTION” is a great blessing of God. We are in a constant state of redeeming the old life for the new life through the eternal work of Jesus. We will complete the process by redeeming the old body for the new eternal one when God calls us on home. {Romans 8:23}. Turn to Hebrews 9 verse 15 and look at ETERNAL INHERITANCE. I like that! I know some folks teach temporary salvation and temporary inheritance but, the Bible says plain as day that if you could lose this “eternal salvation” – you could never get it back because there ain’t another Jesus to go pay for you to get a new repentance at a new cross from a new sacrifice. [Hebrews 6] See verse 4 says “it is impossible” to get it back IF you could lose it [vs 6]. So, we need Jesus to save us to the “Uttermost” and make constant INTERCESSION for us [Hebrews 7:25]. I am glad God himself Jesus has perfected forever those who, like me, have trusted Jesus.
